Capturing a moment of time, a special occasion or the essence of a personality is how I define painting portraiture. Painting a child's soft face or the soft folds of aged skin brings me joy as an artist. When painting, I am literally and figuratively drawn to getting under my subject’s skin. My goal is to capture true likeness while bringing light and color to skin tones by exaggerating the reflection of the subject's surroundings. When presenting the finished work, I revel in seeing my subject's eyes widen with recognition of themselves.
